Interesting facts about THE Ranking 2020

PwC, also known as Pricewaterhouse Coopers, is a multinational professional services accounting firm that has audited this year’s ranking calculation. Proudly, this makes Times Higher Education, the only ranking system to be subjected to independent study and scrutiny.
University of Oxford magnificently tops the chart in 2020 edition of the university rankings for the 4th consecutive year.
California Institute of Technology is second, Stanford University is fourth and Massachusetts Institute of Technology is fifth in 2020 edition of THE Rankings.

Consequently, Princeton University, Harvard University, Yale University and University of Chicago ranking sixth, seventh, eighth and nineth on the Times Higher Education University rankings.
Queensland University of Technology and the University of Canberra are Australia’s two institutions that have entered in the global top 200 for the first time. Also, as per the current methodology (post year 2011) Australia sustained to be a remarkable year for the student destination.

QS World University Rankings

QS considers the university’s reputation among other universities (40%), employers (10%), student-teacher ratio (20%), citations-academic staff ratio (20%) and international outlook including students and staff (10%) for its compilation of top universities in the world.

ACRWU is also known as the Shanghai Ranking. So, ARWU is based on citation indices of articles (20%), articles in the journals in Nature or Science (20%) is highly cited (top 1%) scientists (20%). If an alumnus or alumna of the university is a Nobel laureate (10%), receiving a Nobel prize or if an alumna is a Fields Medal while working in the university (20%) , along with the ratio of the above-mentioned achievements to number of academic staff (10%). ARWU can be quite valuable for students going for research or doctoral degrees.

CWTS Leiden Ranking

The CWTS Leiden Ranking 2020 offers significant insights into the scientific performance of over 1000 major universities worldwide. Hence, Universities in CWTS are ranked on the basis of bibliometric statistics. And as per CWTS Leiden Ranking, citation impact and scientific collaboration are the criteria. You can study the ranking of a particular institution by selecting the country, time period, major field, and your preferred type of KPI.

Not like the conventional parameters, the Webometrics Ranking system uses the university’s online presence, web access, and web visibility as its indicators for its ranking.

How should you use university rankings to shortlist universities?

You can further analyse a university on the basis of country/state, course/program and your desired subject.
For instance, if you wish to study business management, look for universities that rank higher in your desired field of study. It is quite probable that the university ranking with the highest globally may not be the best in its majors department of management.
Once you have your list of shortlisted universities, dive deep by studying each of its modules offered, curriculum, teaching methodologies, campus life, scholarships offered, culture, faculties and sustainability.
