Student Visa Requirement for Ireland, Process, Fees & Application

Before you take the flight, there are some important documents you will require. If you are from a non-European country, then you will most likely need a student visa for Ireland. Don’t worry, we at Future Step Consultants student are here to help with all that boring paperwork.

About Student visa Ireland

If you are thinking about moving to Ireland to study, you would require a student visa. We recommend you check the requirements for your country with the INIS (Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service) and if you need a visa, ask your FUTURE STEP CONSULTANTS STUDENT COUNSELLOR counsellor to help with the visa application process.

When to apply?

You must apply for your Irish study visa as early as possible, as it normally takes 7-8 weeks and even longer to process. You can apply up to 3 months before you arrive.

Required Document for visa application

You must submit passport photograph, required documentation, and appropriate fee for the correct visa type, to the appropriate offices. You would also be required to provide biometrics information.
We highly recommend that you ask your Future Step Consultants Student Counsellor counsellor to guide you through the process, to ensure everything is done correctly. You risk having your student visa refused, if the required documentation is not submitted in time.

Check on visa status

  • You may check your Ireland visa application status online, using the Visa Application Number to see if your visa has been processed. This list is updated weekly
  • If your visa is approved, then the Irish Embassy office will attach your visa to your passport
  • If your visa is refused, you can appeal the decision if it’s within 2 months

If any of your supporting documents is not in English, then you will need to have it translated in English. Each translated document must be date stamped, and it must include the translator’s name, signature and confirmation that it is the correct translation of the original document.

Visa for spouse

You must provide proof of your knowledge of the English language when you apply for your visa. Generally, this means passing a secure English language test.

UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) have minimum English language requirements for reading, listening, writing and speaking according to your level of study. Though, your education institution (sponsor) may have different English language requirements.

As part of the visa application process., there is a slight chance you may be interviewed by a UKVI officer If you can’t hold a plain simple conversation without an interpreter, you may be completely refused entry to the UK, regardless of your English language results.

Biometric residence permit

As part of your visa application, you must also obtain a biometric residence permit (BRP) from UKVI. Therefore, you will be required to make an appointment with UKVI to have your particular thumbs and fingers scanned along with a face digital photo taken.

What happens if my visa application is refused?

If your visa application is refused, then the Irish college will refund the tution fees, excluding a small application fee.

Required Documents for Ireland student visa

  • A recent passport-sized photo
  • A valid passport for 12 months
  • A signed letter of application that explains why you require the Irish visa
  • An Acceptance Letter from the Irish college , university or school, confirming you have been accepted and duly enrolled on a course of full-time education program.
  • A valid proof that you have paid your tuition fees in full. Also, if thetutions fee is more than €6,000, you must pay at least this amount to satisfy visa requirements
  • Proof that you have taken out private health insurance that meets the visa requirements
  • Proof of English language proficiency and most Irish universities and colleges require IELTS score of 6.5
  • Proof that you or your sponsor has sufficient funds to cover your tuition fees and cost of living expenses
  • A valid proof of your scholarship, if you have been granted one
  • If you are applying from China, India, Nigeria, Russia, United Arab Emirates r the UK, you may need further documentation
